On Sunday 25th November Mentmore Golf & Country Club welcomed the incoming Captains for the Men's Section and Ladies, Peter Sheridan and Farida Cerosio, for the annual Captains Drive-In. The event was supported by in excess of 100 members, Peter and Farida's families along with numerous Past Captains and Presidents to celebrate their new roles.
The day started at 8:30am with a champagne reception and registration for the Texas Scramble competition being held after the ceremonial Drive-In. It was a record turnout with 25 teams entered for the shotgun start and entries were being taken right up to the last minute for the big day.
New Club President Bob Clarke welcomed everyone to the first tee on The Rosebery before Farida hit a great drive of 143 yards down the fairway. Then it was new Captain Pete to drive using the hickory shafted club. He managed to nervously hit his drive 125 yards down the middle into a strong headwind, making a total of 268 yards. Guessing correctly the total combined yardage was Bob Walker who kindly donated his winnings of £166.50 to the new Captain's Charity, Medical Detection Dogs.
Following the 9 hole Texas Scramble competition on The Rothschild Course and the prize giving back in the main lounge, Peter and Farida introduced their charity for the year which was very well received by the members as they raise valuable funds and awareness for this local charity. £333 was raised on the day and brings the running total so far to over £1,000! Mentmore Golf & Country Club have also kindly agreed to provide coats for the dogs.
Winners on the day in the Scramble on the front 9 were Bob Clarke, Dave Ellis, Tony Morreale and David Goulds and back 9 winners Paul Goddard, Matt Rolph, Alan Thompson and Richard Chown.
Everyone at Mentmore Golf & Country Club wish both Farida and Peter a fantastic year ahead as Captains.
