The Jamega Tour rolled into Mentmore Golf & Country Club for the Greenfleets Jamega Open on Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th September, held on The Rosebery Course. The tournament was the second event at Mentmore this year after May's tournament on The Rothschild Course. This was also the inaugural Jamega Ladies Pro Golf Tour event and we were extremely proud to be the host course selected to launch this exciting new tour.
Warren Bennett, a former European Tour regular and Jamega stalwart picked up his second Jamega win, albeit with several years in between with a winning score of 4 under 68 to win £2,500 by a shot from previous Mentmore winner Martin Sell and Rob Watkins.
In the Ladies Pro Golf Tour event, 12 ladies took part and this first ever tournament was won by Caroline Grady with a very commendable score of 1 under 71 to win by 2 shots and win £400 from Hannah Ralph and tied third placed finishers Lucy Williams and Rhian Wyn Thomas a further shot back. The Ladies Pro Golf Tour is set to be a huge success and next season will see around 12 Ladies tournaments on the already busy Jamega schedule.
Play on Monday was suspended at around 11:45am due to the constant heavy rainfall which flooded the greens and made play near on impossible for the field of over 70 pro's. The decision was made later in the day to cancel play completely for the day and run the event as a single day tournament on Tuesday.
Both winners played extremely well to shoot the scores they did given the very blustery and almost stormy conditions they had to endure on Tuesday.
Sunday's Pro-Am winners Lauren Blease and Lee Corfield unfortunately couldn't match their scores and finished the tournament on +9 (7th) and +3 (T34) respectively.
Mentmore Golf & Country Club had good representation in the both tournaments, with General Manager Clint Moore and Director of Golf Colin Fairweather entered in the Men's event along with Leanne Ball from Golf Op's taking her place in the Ladies Tour.
All at Mentmore Golf & Country Club would like to congratulate Warren and Caroline on their victories and thank all the players who took part, along with the Jamega staff who do such a fantastic job in running this highly professional tour. Thanks also go to all our sponsors for their involvement and support in making the event yet another success. We would also like to congratulate Head Greenkeeper Danny James and his team on providing all the players with a fantastic course.
We look forward to welcoming the Jamega Pro Golf Tour and the Ladies Pro Golf Tour back again in June and September 2013. Keep an eye out for details of the Pro-Am's which will run again ahead of the 2 day Pro Tournaments.
