(Mentmore Golf & Country Club, Leighton Buzzard – November 2009) Mentmore Golf & Country celebrated a successful fundraising year and presented a cheque for £17, 547 to the ‘Wooden Spoon’ charity last Sunday.

Major events that took place throughout the year to name a few where the Captains Charity Golf Day, the Four Nations Cup, the Club Charity Golf Day, both Charity Am – Am’s, the Charity ‘Spinathon’ and a host of social evenings that where well attended by members and guests.

David Buckingham, Club Captain of Mentmore Golf & Country Club, said: “'I cannot believe that in a year of recession the sum raised for the captains chosen charity was £17, 547. It has been a real challenge raising this amount and I would like to thank all the members of Mentmore, Clint Moore the general manager and all his staff, together with my customers and suppliers for their help in obtaining this figure. It is absolutely brilliant.”

Charity Patron and former England international Martin Bayfield was on hand to accept the donation from Club Captains’ David Buckingham and Sandra Lee. ‘Wooden Spoon’ is the children’s charity of the rugby world. For 25 years Spoon has harnessed the spirit and values of rugby to give disadvantaged children in Britain and Ireland a chance to achieve their full potential in life.
