Mentmore celebrates 20th Anniversary

On Friday 26th October we held the Anniversary Golf Classic to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Mentmore Golf & Country Club. The day was a huge success with 21 teams of 4 players competing for some fantastic prizes, and bragging rights! Although a cold and damp day, the rain held off for the 84 players with a shotgun start at 10:00am on The Rothschild Course.

After the golf the players moved up to the Rothschild Suite for a 2 course meal complete with a Mentmore Cake.  The original video of the Club was shown on the large screen first to remind everyone how the Club started back in 1992, and a lot has changed!  General Manager, Clint Moore, chose a charity very close to his heart as the beneficiary of the £2,375 raised on the day, Induna Football Club in South Africa. The charity started in the 1980’s and provides under priviliged children the opportunity to get involved in football and off the streets. All the money riased goes straight to the club and nothing is wasted on red tape, tax or admin.

Playing team alliance stableford and two best scores to count with 3/4 handicap allowance, the winning team on the day were “The Big 4” of Petra Suter, Ansa Geldenhys, Sara Keyser and Jacques Keyser with a combined score of 78 points. Second place, scoring 74 points, on countback went to Team Dymock of Jon Dymock, Clint Moore, Richard Rowlett and Robin Glover. The prizes for third place, also with 74 points, were collected by Team Bedlam consisting of Glynis and Mick Lawrence with their playing partners Lesley and Anton Bednarek. Prizes were also handed to Jake Humphrey and Nigel Williamson for Men’s Nearest the Pin and Longest Drive, as well as Pauline Bell and Sandra Guilder in the ladies competitions.

The management and staff of Mentmore would like to thank all the members and their guests who attended on the day and for their generous support. We would like to mention special thanks to Club President David Yorke for his speech and handing over the prizes, ex-Captain Jon Dymock for his sterling efforts hosting the charity auction and Derek Williamson for running the raffle. We now look forward to the next 20 years of Mentmore Golf & Country Club.
